This project – a part of Google’s Art, Copy & Code series of projects – lets you see holiday window displays from 18 different stores (including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Saks’s Fifth Avenue etc.) on the streets of Manhattan.
For retailers, creating their holiday window displays is serious business. Work generally begins for next years windows almost immediately after the current year’s windows go up. These elaborately decorated displays are built by teams of artists, technologists, designers, painters, welders and other workers over several months (as long as a year in some cases), with painstaking attention paid to every single detail. They are a major attraction for 5M+ tourists who visit New York between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
